Wobbly C-stands using slider

I have a couple C-stands and the adapters to mount a 40" slider on them. The slider is good, but I find that the C-stands are a bit wobbly. Sandbagging the bases of the stands won't help because I don't think that's the issue. I think what's causing it is the longevity between where the main pole connects from the base to the top of it. Since it's a long area there you'll get wobbliness no matter what. I've secured and tightened every part of the stands and have taken the risers down all the way but the problem persists. If these were really 'short' stands I don't think there would be a problem.

Do I have any options for stabilizing the stands further, or should I just call it quits with them and find a better solution? I'm leaning toward not using the stands at all right now but wanted to check with you guys.

I bought a couple of cheap Fancier brand tripods to use with my slider - they have fluid heads which also helps if the floor is uneven - fix the quick release adaptors to the slider, and away you go! - The larger floor base area of the tripods is a big advantage over C stands.

...or even one tripod and one c-stand. C-stands just aren't designed to be rock-solid-still. Something like a beefy baby or three-legged stand's a big improvement (beefy babies pretty much beat a c-stand for anything, often even price). I use my photo tripod and a spare video tripod or a good stand. A turtle-base c-stand seems a little sturdier, too. At least when dealing with matthews or manfrotto.
