"Within a Minute"

So, it's a lesson on what NOT to do; in one minute.

Ouch! I like it.

That reminds me of the Burton "Apes" remake (can you say SHITE?). The only watchable material on the DVD set was some of the behind the scenes footage.

I loved Episode 3.... I am starting to believe Lucas when he says the acting style is intentional... it is very very similar to the sci-fi serials he takes his inspiration from.. but I dunno...

The acting in this film is half good half awful.. so anyway..

I gotta say.. I wasn't impressed with this doc at all.. sure.. the catering people are important, but this was just a long credit list, it wasn't all that interesting. "The Beginning" doc and "From puppets to pixels" were far more interesting and informative. Maybe it is just because I am aware of the insane work that goes into these shots, I mean it isn't too hard to see how much work is needed.

It was good.. just not to the standard of the other two docs before.

Poor George. I know he reads and sometimes even posts here on this forum. He must feel bad about how his films are taken here.

You know, Beethoven learned to compose by listening to Haydn symphonies. I wouldn't be caught dead listening to Haydn but Beethoven is a master!

CaptM

Are you kiddin'?

Haydn has some good stuff.

100% real lava? i don't think so. maybe something closer to 30%. But I will say this, I was wrong when I said it looked 'fake'. 'Fake' is not the word I was looking for. It looked "created". It looked nicely crafted. It looked like pretty eye candy amdist a fairly cool sword fight. I never felt threatened by the lava. Maybe cuz I already knew what happend. But that begs a much larger question. Why the hell did Lucas tell this story in the first place?

Why did Lucas tell the story?

1. Because it's a great story and a very good movie. (Visually fantastic, although the dialogue and some of the plot elements were pretty bad.)
2. Because it made him hundreds of millions of dollars.

I thought the lava looked amazing. Return of the King had some of the worst lava effects I've ever seen; Lucas' choice to go with practical effects (then work with them in post) really paid off. The lava looked incredible.

As for John's suggestion that this is only applicable if you can make it in your garage, I'm going to try and replicate some of this stuff this January. Of course it will look awful, but I'm curious to see if I can get a match-moving greenscreen fight to work at all.

I've enjoyed it so far.

One thing I was surprised to see was what appears to be his complete lack of planning or level of detail on some of the work. When editing he;s sitting there going 'Hmmm. how are we goona do that? We're gonna have to re-shoot this one'

I'm not trying to take away terribly from the EMPIRE (no pun) he's created but he doesnt strike me as too bright; there's a difference between bright and smart.

Anyway; I'm enjoying THE DEVILS REJECTS doc more than this SW one.
