Hi,
After getting back my fs700 with the new upgrade can anyone please explain the new cine gammas? I'm familiar with S-log and of course the 2k/4k features, I'm curious to learn about the new REC 709 and REC709 800% settings. One is really darker than the other, what's a typical application in using any of these cine gamma settings. Thanks for any info. Greatly appreciate it

Of course.
It appears darker because 18% grey at Standard Gamma on 709 is at 45% on Hypergamma 709 800% its at 30%. Its all about exposing. So ur skin tones are 15% down too when exposing right. On 800% u have a lot more stops over grey (5 or 6?) in the compressed part so u get a more smoother highlight rolloff. (filmlook)
Use rec709 when u dont want to do special color correction things because u r good to go with rec709.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful answer Skylike, You made it real easy and provided me a good starting point to understand these new gammas.

Best,
