If I make the plunge on a DVX100a, should I opt for an extended warranty, and if so, for how many years? I imagine I'll put quite a bit less than an average number of hours on my camera. Thanks for any advice.
Briankay...actually Mack warranty is valid for the orginal parts of the camera. It only covers any malfunctioning due to manufacture. In Europe that is a useful oprtion becuase in the absence of the orginal Panasonic warranty u have some assurance to ur major investment. I purchased 2 years Mack warranty for my camera, though frankly within the first few weeks I knew that I would never need it since everthing in the cam was wroking fine. Nonetheless, I had a sense of satisfaction while my DVX was on its way.
Dont know about the latest situation in the States; if u can get a Panasonic original warranty, that should be the best option as compared to mack. However if u dont have any other oprtions, in my view mack is not a bad alternative to consider.
Getting extended warranties (at least here in the states) is usually an extra expense and not worth it. Stores always push the extended warranties because they are big money makers.
Here is some great info regarding extended warranties. This is a must read if you plan on getting one:
