Wisdom required re: EX1

Tim Burtons Corpse Bride was the first feature length stop motion movie to use a DSLR:

Cool. I guess DSLRs are the way to go for that. The article did mention it took 52 weeks, twice as long as his usual workflow. That could have been set design though...

Plenty to think about! I am relatively very ignorant re: digital video so, above discussion is enlightening. If I was only planning stop-frame animation, I would probably now go with DLSR.. but, for all the other things which it can make possible, it is hard to resist the EX1.

With appreciation.

Interesting conversation.

After adding my 5d2 to the arsenal, I can't imagine being without it. My wife and I are actually considering a second body. We are a husband/wife video team...she shoots the EX1 and I, the HVX. I have been carrying the Canon on my shoulder for different shots lately and she's envious. The shots, whether sill RAW or Jpeg OR the "substandard" 1080 30p video are simply Awesome! It's helped alot with weddings that are darker or sitations with candid shots not related to the main cam. For stop-frame animation, I can't imagine a better choice (other than what may be on the horizon of DSLRs....1Dmk4, 60D, or Nikon's counter punch with video). It's defintiely a nice tool to have....and we're getting to a point that it may be the BEST tool to have for certain video projects:)

Also, L glass is definitely NOT necessary! Don't let anyone tell you different. I have a half dozen pieces of L glass and I shoot my Sigma 50mm 1.4 alot of the time. Many suggest the nifty fifty as an excellent starting lens for video with the 5d. Capturing the best still images, L glass still has the leg up, for sure. With video though, the Canon is almost 10 times the resolution of 1080p:) (2miliion pixels vs. 22million)

Good Luck with your choice, it just got harder....or more expensive:)
