Wireless Village

I'd like to go wireless to video-village. Need to run from F3 (SDI) to multiple iPads if possible. I'm aware of Teradek, but am looking for suggestions from practical experience. (does it actually work?) Last thing I need is restless, unruly clients due to monitor problems! :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

Anyone have any first-hand experience with this stuff?

Thx!

I don't have any first-hand experience with Teradek, but I have researched for the past month considering this option. I came to the conclusion that it's not for me for a few reasons. It's another device that needs power, which results in more cables. You can only view an SD feed on at most two IPADS if you want minimal delay. Finally it's just not as reliable or cheap as a solid SDI connection.

I have a Teradek Cube 150 and yes it will broadcast to iPads / iPhones concurrently. You can do it directly from the Cube or send the signal to a router and then out. The frame delay is about 3 to 4 frames.

The new Cube, the 155, has two transmitters and pushes out a stronger signal. The 150 will broadcast a reasonable distance but it depends on the walls it has to go through. Think about broadcasting on your own wireless network and that is the kind of distance you will get.

You can, of course, put on a bigger, high gain antenna.

If you are looking for zero delay wireless transmission, I would look at the Switronix wireless transmitter/receiver combo but it is in the +$3,000 range. The Teradek Cube is $2 to $2.5 grand depending on the model.

The Cube firmware has improved a lot over the past six months. I would now consider it a production ready device.
