FS7: Wireless Video Transmission System

I have the Blitz unit, and it has worked flawless for me, in some very challenging environments as well.

I don't have a fs7, but every other camera I own, out of the SDI (never tried hdmi) works as it should; F55, Red Epic, F3, EX3, pdw-700, etc..

What are our options these days for this setup?

I wanna expand a bit on my FS7 built and add nucleus-m to my Fujinons, along with a transmitter and monitor for AC work. Are there any good but not too expensive options available that work with the FS7?

I had first of all the iDX CW1.. pretty useless I found.. traded in for the CW7 .. works very well.. all frame rates Ive used it works.. including 23.98P.. (which seems to becoming the universal FR).. all antennas internal and power from V mount pins.. cant be bad..

Interestingly I've been using the IDX CW-1 successfully to transmit a 23.976fps 1080p signal via HDMI out whilst shooting 4K DCI internally. Works perfectly at up to ~20m range, and then becomes prone to interference depending on RF environment. Walls reduce range (obviously). Not perfect by any means, and I've hated having to interact with HDMI for the first time in a long time, but for ~£1000 less than the SDI alternative, it's worth it for me for now...

I had one of those (parallinx Arrow version). Expect it to fail if using it in hot, humid places and where there are other 5GHz systems. Mine eventually died on a shoot in India. I've replaced it with the Swit CW 150. Which has been faultless so far and super quick to connect. Less latency too, which if using with a follow focus is an absolute must.

Interesting to hear Liam. I think that it must've been the humidity (or possibly the interference, although I don't see how that could cause any lasting damage) that caused the problem with your Parallinx unit. I only say that because I gave my CW-1 a blessing by fire with 6 days shooting in Senegal. We were shooting several days in direct equatorial sun at temperatures around 35 degrees, and didn't have any issues with overheating. Could of course be an issue of the hardware wearing down over time, but I hope (for obvious reasons!) that it may be a difference in the Parallinx vs. IDX hardware implementation.

Also, I was using the CW-1 solely for monitoring with a follow focus, and tested it a lot for latency before leaving. I couldn't see any more than a 1-frame latency at all (and this is confirmed by a handful of online reviews). This again leads me to question if the arrow has identical implementation to the CW-1.

In any case, you're of course completely right that the CW-150 is a superior piece of kit. I'm just not personally sure that it's twice the piece of kit (in the sense of being worth 2x the £££).

Cheers,

That's interesting Jason. It does look exactly the same as the Parallinx Arrow. Mine lasted for exactly two years, hopefully yours will do better.

Maybe I had a bum unit.. but I found it really useless .. and the antenna were very weak.. long time to make contact..but over heating seemed to be the main problem.. this was a couple of years ago ..maybe its been improved.. the now discontinued CW7 was alot better..and the lack of power cable and ext antenna a huge advantage.. iDX have new wireless coming out this year.. and new batteries ..

OH ! sorry I just looked it up.. I had a CW3 that was unless .. not the CW1.. never used it .. sorry false news

I scanned all the replies and I’m surprised no one has brought up the Vaxis Storm 500+. I use that system on my FS7 and it works flawlessly. It’s in the 5.1-5.9ghz range and so far haven’t run into problems with other systems on set doing BTS.
