Wireless monitoring/headphones?

I really think it just depends on what level you're playing at.
For $120 (give or take) why not buy one and try it out. Sell it if you don't like it.

Personally a 30ft range just isn't going to cut it for 99.9% of the jobs I do. Even simple interview situations where the clients
are in another room with a monitor, quite often thats more than 30ft (and through a couple walls).

I actually just sold off my comtek system because I'm moving to a 250mW Lectro system because I want flawless transmission (and better sound quality).
Point is, everyone will have different needs and wants. Only you will know if something like this will work for you or not.

For me? No.

I use a pair of audio technica stereo in ear monitors like a band would use. I feed one channel the boom and the other channel the lavs. That way whoever has the headphones can control their own mix of how the two blend together. They have excellent range, sound really good, and have a bunch of different modes and uses.

When one can't afford the traditional Comtek/headphone system, I wonder if this
http://www.topreviewshop.com/tdk_wr700_wireless_headphones might work for short range wireless monitoring. I'm thinking for clients, script supers boom ops, wireless return monitoring from camera etc.

Looks OK(ish) - but it's digital and will have some latency. So what you hear will be slightly delayed. Unfortunately I cannot see the latency figure in the spec.

@ John
Ah..latency i.e. echo effect is definitely something to investigate..something irrelevant to music listening but would be pretty annoying while recording. And you'd have to use whatever level of isolation the phones have.

@soundguy
is the setup you are talking about portable? What I like about the TDK is the transmitter is battery op and small.
