Wireless Mic system

I currently have a Shure sm58 microphone that I use for interviews. I am looking to pick up a wireless mic kit to go with it within a budget of $600. What would be a couple good systems to consider?

Sennheiser G3 is my choice. I have 2 sets with the SKP100 transmitter that plugs into the back of a hand held mic like the SM58. That unit alone is about $249 USD. I think you can get a receiver separately for it. It is likely going to run you about the same. That brings you in for around $500, maybe $550.

I just got the whole kit with the SKP transmitter and receiver plus wireless lav mic. Works great. Total was just under $800. That kit may exceed your budget slightly, but it is money so very well spent.

If the Sennheiser stuff is too pricey for you, I'd look at Samson next. But I do strongly prefer the Sennheiser stuff, especially at this price point.

Agreed here...Sennheiser G3 system. I also have a G2 system. Both are the ENG kits. Love 'em, never a single problem.

Err...actually, take that back. The mic butt plug on my G3 system doesn't latch into the microphone quite right, never has. Probably should have returned it for service or something, but just been too busy using the thing. :)

I have the Audio Technica dual input ATW-R1820 and while it has awesome capabilities, I have been enormously frustrated in finding frequencies that don't affect my recordings in the field. I've had frequency interruptions screw up valuable interviews that I cannot replicate. The lavs seem to work just fine, and the transmitters do too. But I've spent an inordinate amount of time on my sets trying to find a frequency that will not get lost sometime during the hour or so of shooting. I've scanned frequencies, had them stick, and 30 minutes in I'm losing one channel or the other. So perhaps the Sennheiser is a better system. Perhaps it's me...but I'm suspecting it's something else...and the AT is the likely culprit.
