Wireless for Weddings

I'd also definitely replace the stock mic. The Countryman B6 is really nice because it is super tiny (I covered a Bat Mitzvah about 6 months ago and couldn't pull a house feed so I just put a B6 on the primary mic (taped neatly) and no one even knew it was there (other than the mic pack I strapped to the bottom of the mic stand).

As far as the wireless goes, the G2's are a great place to start. But, shoot for Lectrosonics if you're serious about delivering a quality product. What I did was started with G2's, and used the proceeds from my various projects to upgrade my kit over time. I went from 3 G2's to a Lectro Venue system and 3 Rx's for my bag.

BTW, I also have a Zaxcom ENG set up up for sale on the marketplace. That would also suit your needs perfectly and it comes with an upgraded lav. :-) (sorry for the plug).

Thanks for all the help. The G2 arrived today and works very well. I'm not going to complain about the stock at this time because I have nothing to compare it against. We'll see how it performs when I get the test footage in to the NLE.

Out of interest, what is it about the stock mic that people don't like?

It sounds a little harsh, sibilant. Frequency response isn't very smooth or natural by any stretch.

That said, the human voice vs. a microphone is a weird thing. Where one mic works well with one voice, it may sound awful on another. And while that holds true more often in-studio for recording vocals, I've experienced a few people that actually sounded great on the stock lav for on-cam dialog... but those are few and far between.
