Wireless DSLR external monitor for under $200

Wierd. This is great for under $200...you guys amaze me.
Bought one.
waaaaahhhh...it's only 30 feet
waaaahhhh...it's only SD
waaaahhh...it has gaff tape

I thought it was a pretty neat idea too. I ordered one and was impressed enough to call Robert and ask if he would be upset if we designed some additional components to add to the LCD to make it a little more user friendly. He's a really cool guy, and was more the happy to help me design up an enclosure for both the LCD and transmitter. I think we are going to tool up and offer it on the site. Both as a complete unit with our added parts and just our parts for those that have already ordered the basic 'garage project'.

The pictures are the proto types of both. The LCD uses 15mm carbon rods for side handles and has a 1/4-20 threaded mount on the top and bottom. I was thinking arm mount/stud mount. But one of the girls here grabbed a camera strap and a 1/4-20 swivel mount and wore the thing around her neck like a purse. She was helping me take shots of the different rigs and it was awesome. She would just pull it up, turn it on and we would make adjustment right there. The transmitter snaps are just like our Tekkeon snaps. Fit our thin or medium pads and can be mounted to any 15mm set of rods. Transmitter snaps in and out.

So yeah, I like it. Especially if you had a few of them to hand out during a shoot.

Steve

Hey Steve. Have you and Robert teamed up yet with your additional parts? If so how do that affect the current $200 price. I did not see an additional price on the website.

I just ordered one. My director, Kevin Coleman, MA from AFI, told me today that he will not shoot anything again without a monitor. We like to keep the camera moving shooting music videos. This is perfect for him to hold. He's gonna love it!

Yes, I ordered the mold bases on Friday, tool design is complete just need to cut the tools. One for the snaps and one for the LCD itself. The handles are standard carbon fiber rods. We are looking at including the following pieces in a 'kit';

LCD:
Top and bottom frame with 1/4-20 center mount
Set of Carbon fiber rods
Hardware for assembly
Transmitter;
Medium rail pad
Set of struts
realted hardware

Both web sites will have the same componenets. We will sell our kit pieces plus Roberts wireless Monitor kits. He will also do the same. I think it will add about 30.00-40.00 to the kits.

Well I have an HD monitor and an HDMI splitter. I don't think I can use both HDMI and a/v out at the same time. Is it possible to run this transmitter to hdmi somehow? If so that would be sooooooo cool. I would buy one immediately and probably two or three for b and c cameras. Please advise.

Just to let you know I've been using mine a lot. There is some interferance sometimes but generally pretty clean. I can hand the monitor to the actors so they can see the framing then pass it back to the grip to show him where to tweak etc
