Wired for sound????

Hey kids...

For all you DVX guru's who really know their stuff, perhaps you can help a rookie out. I want to get the best possible sound using Lavs and my DVX... I am having some issues at present with my sound being too low. I know I have settings on both my mics and DVX.... anyone have settings that they always use. love and never get burned with?

I am having to fix far too much in post.... and then I end up with over-modulated sound quality. Any help to remedy my sound situation would be greatly welcomed!

Thanx,
divah

first, check your inputs on cam are properly set ('mic' vs 'line').

dont forget there are mic gain settings accessible even from the menu (-50 and -60dB i think). i usually keep the ALC on.

If you have just 1 lav mic, put it in input 2, and enable both channels to get audio from ext input 2. in this case you can keep one of the two channels at a lower volume (using the voume knobs on the cam) to be able to fix possible clipping in post.

the microphone that comes on the dvx100a is very poor for recording sound... i use a microphone from my dvc200 on the dvx and it works MUCH better... also make sure the audio is turned up on the camera...
