Winter, a Fairy Tale

Quick update -

A few posts ago, Will mentioned shooting this piece "Hollywood style" -- I'd like to add that we already have test shots that could be straight out of a Ridley Scott film.

Yeah... and that's using a DVX.

Wow, Ridley Scott uses the DVX?
I had no idea.
:)

In all seriousness - I'm really looking forward to this.
Will gave me a quick pitch of the story recently, and it sounds like it could be a really solid piece.

Any chance we'll see a frame grab from any of these tests?
Or are we going to have to wait for the final product?

Well, I'd say that's probably a call left to Will but... I have a feeling we'll be posting something up sometime soon.

...

Hell, if Will says no, I'll kick him in the knee and then post something anyways, if only just a teaser. :)

You want grabs?!?! I got your grabs!!! Look at these babies.

or this one

here are two examples of the amazing depth of field control with NO adapter used

and this one of my brother with a touch of contrast added

Remember, these are for illustration only and should not be construed as screen grabs from the actual film. The actual film has not yet been shot and therefore it would be impossible to have screen grabs from it.

Nice grabs - and by the way, your brother looks just like you.
Not sure if posting 'test footage' is okay - might want to check with Barry, Larry, Jason, et al.

But either way - looks pretty damn cool.
I see you're getting good use out of that jib.

Ahh, the Austin Ewok didn't read the last lines of the last post. ( Insert winking smiley)
This is just test footage of the stuff me mum keeps in her garden. Odd things, but fun to shoot. None of this is going to go into the film. The test was of the lights we got from PCL. I am very pleased with the way they held up to my handling, and they gave me no trouble at all. I was also doing a "cold soak" on all the gear to see how it would handle the temperature at night. No problems and lots of information learned.

Oh I read it.
:)
Just wasn't sure if any moving footage was okay.
Then again I know some BTS stuff was posted by some people - just not sure where the line is drawn.

Thats one cool looking garden.

No problems and lots of information learned.

That's the best place to be!

Thanks for watching my back Luis. Here is the actual copied rule regarding the posting of footage.

"Films may only be promoted on DVXuser.com before screening and no actual footage from films may be screened prior to the DVXuser screening. No promotion on external web sites is allowed until after the screening has been completed."

I double checked to be certain I hadn't violated the rule before I ever even got started. If we have time later on, I'll try to get actual grabs up, but for now it's gonna have to be test stuff. Yeah, we're just showin' off the cool look we're getting.

Yeah, as Will has stated, these aren't from the film, but are definitely a good test that hints at the direction we're going in -- expressionistic atmosphere. The final shots, utilizing both intentional lighting and stage effects, should make for an intensive visual experience.

We now have all of the props we have been looking for. I would recommend watching this film several times to make certain you see all of the stuff in it. We start set construction on Monday and have our first cast and crew meeting tomorrow. Looks like we're going to shoot on the HVX without an adapter. We have the Advanta-Jib Lite and bunches o' lights. I can safely say this is the most ambitious undertaking to date. I promise you will all be amazed when this one hits the screen.

Update.
We are set to shoot on the 19th and the 26th. There are a few in between days with just the younger male and the camera. But these are not the "set work" shoots of the two nights listed.
Our list of props and set decor for one scene alone has almost hit a hundred different items. Several are over a hundred years old and a couple are nearing the one seventy five mark.
The cast and crew are really stoked and excitement is high. Set construction commences next week. Rehearsals are spread out over the next couple of weeks. The elephant remains the weak link in the chain and may have to be cut from the project. He did work for peanuts though.
I am about to learn the fine art of sewing. One of the costumes has to be hand sewn and one of the props also requires the needle and thread treatment.
There will be a game released at the same time as our entry. Sort of a "find it in the scene" game. There aren't going to be any prizes other than the satisfaction of a job well done.
More tomorrow.

Big tech meeting tonight. Digital workflow is up and running. The HVX to Vegas issues have been resolved through Raylight. The following departments have received their assignments and are in full swing: Costume, Art, Lighting, Special Visual Effects, Workflow, Hair and Makeup, Sound and Music.
We have a fantastic cast and crew and I am honored to be working with every person involved. We are shooting a behind the scenes to go along with the film for our DVDs. Some amazing stories have happened while getting this project off the page and on the screen. I don't want to forget any of it.

Spent a very productive afternoon with half of the art department working on cad layouts for the set. It was really interesting to see things being put where they need to go and seeing the scale correct relationships between objects. We now also know what size jib we can use and where we can put it. Now to build.

Wow - set construction and departments...
I'm feeling underprepared suddenly.

Good luck this weekend - maybe we'll run into eachother
:)

Sorry Mike, Guess you didn't get the message. The Jolly Roger is booked. We have the Queen Mary II as a prop though.
As of today, the tigers are back in, the baboons are out.
Meris said she can get us a twenty-five foot python but it's gonna cost us a bit more than originally anticipated. I talked to John and he said he can live on one kidney.
New plot development deals with time travel.
I'll fill you in at yesterdays meeting.
