windscreen/blimp for AT4073a

I also have the K-Tek Zeppelin for my AT4073a. Nice product for a very reasonable price. You'll want the medium size for your AT4073a.

Also, as stated in the other replies - yes, you'll need to have the fur covering the zeppelin when outdoors. It provides good, effective protection from the wind. That's what these things are built for, right?

kewl, i was always under the impression if wind is not an issue, then there is no point in having extra layers between the mic and the sound, but from what i gather its not significant enough to worry about.

and please guys, get off your ****ing high horses k? It is not dumb of someone to not take one or two peopls opinions as fact, but rather waiting for a series of replies to reinforce what was stated. have some patience...

so now, between these three guys, does anyone know the advantages/disadvantages of using one over the other?

at $350

or this

at $250

and this one

at $185

if the more expensive one is better, does the price difference justify the quality difference?

Sennheiser makes a full blimp and windsock solution as well as Rycote. And it is priced a bit less. You can get it with a conversion kit so it works with K-tek shockmounts and pistol grips.

the first one give you the best protection as the fur sits away from the mic over the basket and that way make dead air and less noise of the wind bamps over the mic body.
it has separate suspension so you will be able work without the fur and the blimp in situations you dont need it but only with the mic foam - no wind , interials
k-tek also make wind cover which eliminates the fur in light wind situations you can place over the basket ( aditional cost) , email brenda from k-teck for details

disadvantages - It weight more then the others

the mic sits few cm back inside the basket - usually not critical ( 6 db loss for double the distance ) , so you may loss 1-2 db signal to envairment noise . most depends on the mic placing usually you will not have any problem with that as you work from 2 feet so the aditional 2-3 inch is nothing .
mostly critical with low output microphones as neumann 81/82 which need allot of amplifier gain be ride up , so sometimes you miss these 7 cm , since you work with very high output mic forget about .

the other 2 are identical products with a difference intheir mounting , one come with boom adaptor ,the secend with camera mount and since no one buy it it is cheaper :-)
the disadvantages , may take not so strong wind as the zeppeline , you may have wind bumps on the mic body , part of the mic sit outside so can be harm by humidity , the suspension is less good
you cant detach the foam and the fur from the suspention if you dont need it for interiaas shot .

any other questions

sick so im almost there

for the more expensive one.. i am not sure if i understood you correctly, but is the fur removable leaving me with a bare zepplin?

and this senheisser thing, got a linky?

i saw your link before, and i stated the issues i had with it, are your eyes alright?

christ what happened to these boards, used to be so helpful, and patience, where the hell did that go

if you are going to get frustrated with me, then please, do not post, i care not what you have to say.

otherwise...

is that the same system as the 350$ one? i cant find the manufacturers # on that page you sent me but the details look rather the same.

but only issue, as i said, is i dont like how the blimp has absolutely no protection without the fur, the holes in the skin are.. wel.. holes.. but if this issue is shared with the 350 dollar one, then i don't have any more questions.

Sorry for getting frustrated, it's just that it seems like you keep repeating yourself after people answer your questions. And yes, that link that Oleg put up is a detailed representation as the $350 solution. All K-Tek Zeppelins are like that. So like I said before, prepare to spend a lot more if you want a zeppelin that has a basket with no holes. Take in mind, these baskets are heavier and will put more strain on your boom op.

I've used a Rycote system before and I either used it with the fur on or not at all. If I didn't need the zeppelin with the fur, I just used the softie because it's lighter. If I didn't need the softie, I used foam. I really don't like having to use a zeppelin unless I absolutely need to... or if I want to really work out my back and shoulders.

that package looks sweet.

i guess ill get that other little guy, and a softie.

thanks guys. much appreciated.
