Hello

Thanks to all for their informative posts on this forum, they're a big help.

Wondering about workflow:

I am working with an older Avid program which does not handle the DNxHD file.

I want to convert from the H264 native to Mpeg-2 4:2:2.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a conversion program? Preferably free.

Are you on a Meridian? Are you looking for HD or SD?

Why not tell us what formats your Avid supports and we can try to tell you how to get there. But I will tell you right now, getting to Mpeg2 4:2:2 isn't going to be easy. Especially in HD. The only codec I can think of that writes and Mpeg2 422 file is Sony's XDCamHD 422. And if your Avid can't handle DNxHD, it certainly isn't going to handle XDCam in any flavor.

I am looking for HD res.

I can work in Mpeg-2 HD 1080, but the program also allows for Mpeg-2 4:2:2
