Windows 7 and Vegas and Vegas Pro 9?

Are you saying that you have realtime playback with MB looks? What are the hardware specs of your machine? Which video card? What is the playback mode (I assume "preview" quality, and probably half-frame size?)

No I am not saying that I get realtime playback with MB Looks.

Machine Specs:

Dell Precision T5400
CPUs - 2 2.67GHz Xeon
RAM - 8 GB
Video Card - Nvidia Quadro FX4800
Drives 1.8TB onboard

"Crash and burn" should not happen. I can accept slow editing and preview, but the system should remain responsive and should not crash. After all, they are DECODING video, not RUNNING video. It is their code working, and this code must be written in defensive manner.

My current system does not crash and burn. I have had issues with some versions of Vegas and certain things on the timeline in the past.

Hey PF, did you use Vegas 8 before? Is Vegas 9 noticeably better in stability, responsiveness or speed?

I have used Vegas 7-9. I have not had any issues with stability in any of the versions. I have found that the 64 bit versions are significantly faster for my work than the 32bit versions. That is with 8.1 and 9.0.

Nice setup. My CPU is "only" four-core @ 2.2GHz and my video card is a cheap-ass 8400 (not even GT). They say that Vegas does not use GPU, still I might upgrade the video card just to make sure that I did all I could :-) I have 8GB RAM too.

Vegas may not use the card, but MB does, Virtualdub does, and other apps do as well. I didn't want the card to be an issue if I decided to change NLEs or if I purchased something that made heavy use of the graphics card.

I find that doing a CLEAN install of OS, and only installing the apps I need to do my video work, keeps many problems at bay. As does having sufficient RAM. I also do not use long-GOP on the timeline on any significant project. I move to 10-bit i-frame codecs.

I use the HMC 150 and it all works fine but preview doesnt work okay on anything above preview quality... AVCHD doesnt run perfect on any machine yet, but itworks fine for me as long as i get used to the lag time... im going to try converting before using it on vegas... now here is a good question, if it barely makes it with avchd how can it run the Red one files?

RED uses a very different kind of compression. One that decodes MUCH faster and easier than AVCHD. AVCHD is all wrong for editing an numerous fronts. Low bit-depth, tricky decompression speeds, 4:2:0 color space, long-GOP, everything you DON'T want for editing.

I wish I could use it since it causes crashes during renders for me. the after effects motion blur is more realistic so I cant rant to much, but it makes my workflow a little bit more tedious.

What about us lowly peasants still stuck with Vegas 6?? Will I still be able to run it if upgrading to Windows 7? I really want to get a 64 bit OS so I can utilize my 4 gigs of ram, but I'm so comfortable using Vegas that I'm almost chicken to upgrade if it means losing the ability to use Vegas...

If Vegas 6 DOES work w/ Windows 7, would my plugins work as well? (Namely, magic bullet looks for vegas).

Since I had a minute this morning....

I took a RED 4k file, added film effects, glow, and light rays, then added motion blur and it's currently rendering to a 2k lagarith .AVI. No problems at all.

Is this assuming I'm using 32bit windows 7?

and will the 32bit OS utilize all of my ram (as well as the 32bit vegas)? that's the problem I'm having now w/ XP 32.

No it's not assuming you are running 32bit Win7. Use 64bit Win7 so you can use all your RAM. But run 32bit Vegas so you can still use Vegas 6 and MBL.

Hmmm....might be worth making the jump, but still unsure since my setup is vista 64 + 1080i HDV ... cant hurt to DL the trial and see whats up.

Here is my Config for Vegas 9c Pro with Windows 7 Professional

Intel i7 860
Gigabyte UD5
4x2GB DDR3 OCZ Platinium
1x500GB SATA2 for System
3x1TB SATA2 for Clips
ESP1010 SoundCard (for 5.1 editing)
Monitor LCD: 2xSamsung F2380 (great PVA Matrix for HD editing)

In Vegas everyhing is going ok, even in Best Settings in 1080p. But in 99% time i'm using Preview Full for Work.
Sometimes Vegas add some veird blocks in transitions (i saw it even in first v9 relse) - help for this is to reopen project before rendering)

I purchased this PC especially for AVCCAM editing... and i'm Happy :)

My previous PC for DV & HDV edit - was unable to edit this heavy format... i had playing rate in preview 4-5FPS ;)

Does anyone know how to install old FX chains and presets from my old Windows XP? I have the folders saved on my computer.

Also, how do you install plug-in chains? I can't seem to figure it out.
