Windows 7 and Vegas and Vegas Pro 9?

I'm getting a new PC with Windows 7 installed, which is a 64 bit system. Will Sony Vegas Pro 9 and DVD architect 5.0b work with Windows 7? Vegas Pro 9 comes in a 64 bit version but I don't see a 64 bit option for DVD Architect.... Both programs are sold together? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

OK, that was a stupid post, for some reason I thought windows 7 was already out on the market...

Will DVD Architect work with a 64 bit computer?

No, it's a very good question - surely someone has tried running Vegas under the beta release of Windows 7? I too am looking to upgrade my computer and would like to know whether waiting for Windows 7 (around October, I believe) is a good idea.

I run windows 764bit. I have vegas 9 is 32 and 64bit...Works great...DVD arc.. works great as well

Thanks, that's one less thing to worry about when we upgrade :) (well, I presume the same would be true for 32-bit Windows 7...)

Has anyone else tried Windows 7 and Vegas?

I have an editing laptop that's saddled -- I mean, equipped with Vista Business. I'd like to ditch Vista when Windows 7 hits the market, so long as Vegas plays well with it.

Windows 7 has been released a month ago. I am running Vegas 8.0c 64-bit on it and experiencing strange delays from time to time. Sometimes Vegas all but hangs, but then recovers in a minute. I would not say the overall experience is faster than on 32-bit system, if any, it is slower.

I thought the official launch wasn't until around Oct 22? But I'd expect any compatibility issues would be the same as with the Beta versions that have been around for a while - I'm not aware of Vegas doing anything weird re the operating system.

I've been holding off buying a new PC until Windows 7-equipped systems hit the market - my existing system just can't handle the stresses of editing any more... :(

I run Vegas 7 and now Vegas 9 in windows 7 32bit, very solid system.

I was very hesitant to upgrade to Vegas Pro 9 because I had so many issues with Vegas Pro 8, but the latest version of Vegas Pro 9 is solid. I'm editing a 30 minute documentary right now and I run 2 copies of Vegas while editing, one for the main project and one to build my graphics (it keeps my main project uncluttered that way.)

I did buy some cheap ram that started to make my system crash but as soon as I put my old ram back in the system it ran perfectly.

Just a couple of my experiences for what it's worth.

I run Win 7 and Vegas 9 64 and 32 bit. No trouble whatsoever.

can you try adding a heavy motion blur to a complex edit and see if it renders? I wanna be sure V9 on 64bit can handle it before I make the jump from V8. this problem has been plaguing me for too long. crashes every single time.

Vegas on 7 works fine

Vegas on 7 works fine

Its really better im running vegas 9.b pro x64... it works fast and easy... but one thing im loosing my head with is that i constantly use magic bullet looks 1.2.1 and eversince intalling it doesnt run on vegas... anyone has a clue how to make it work? according to red giant, it runs on x64 sistems, but im dying to know how? please help!!!

Define: "Complex edit"

If I have something suitable, I'll run a render when I get to the office in the morning. Might have to bring something back off archive though.

anything would work. the projects I'm trying to render have a color corrector or two applied. I also found out today that if I re-sample overcranked clips, the resulting motion blur also causes vegas to crash.

Hello,

I have Vegas Pro 8.0C . I want to get a new laptop and install Vegas on it. Can anyone recommend a computer and configuration, maybe a reputable dealer with good customer support?

Thanks
Dean

I have quick blur, radial blur, linear blur... but no "motion blur". So tell me either where you got it or what you want.

No reason of doing "complex" effects, it all depends on RAM and CPU. What I am interested in, is solid functionality with no freezes, holdups, crashes and with more or less realtime playback of AVCHD video WITHOUT any effects. So far I cannot say that my experience with Vegas 8.1 64-bit on Windows 7 64-bit is better than Vegas 8.0c 32-bit on Windows Vista 32-bit. I expected that added memory should help dealing with longer clips, with swapping, caching, etc. But Vegas still is experiencing hiccups and freezes.

Oh, I also see weird behavior of Photoshop 7.0. When I invoke a dialog window with a slider, like Levels, and I change levels and I keep my mouse button pressed, the window disappears in about 5 seconds and the window blinks. I can find that dialog window and continue using it, but the point is, that the system does not handle constant stream of WM_MOUSEDOWN messages correctly.

To those who did not know: Windows 7 RTM has been released on August 6 for MSDN downloads and OEM installation. It is a final release, not beta.

As long as people insist on putting AVCHD on the timeline with current hardware technology, NLEs will crash and burn. That is just where we are. It's no different than when everyone had miniDV machines, and started trying to put HDV on the timelines. Programs choked and burned. Three years from now, this will be trivial, but not yet.

As far as Efexone, I have numerous videos with multiple layers of MB Looks, color corrections, and other effects with no issues. I am using Win7 with 8GB of RAM on an 8 core machine.

Are you saying that you have realtime playback with MB looks? What are the hardware specs of your machine? Which video card? What is the playback mode (I assume "preview" quality, and probably half-frame size?)

"Crash and burn" should not happen. I can accept slow editing and preview, but the system should remain responsive and should not crash. After all, they are DECODING video, not RUNNING video. It is their code working, and this code must be written in defensive manner.

Hey PF, did you use Vegas 8 before? Is Vegas 9 noticeably better in stability, responsiveness or speed?
