Wimbledon 2010!

Darren Cahill predicted this morning that both Fed and Nadal would be out today. Thus far, he looks good on both counts.

Soderling will have to step it up to bring that prediction to pass, but ... I think he's capable of it. Looks decent in the third.

Heck, the Williams sisters even lost in doubles today. This is one crazy year.

I think the only other thing that could top this, is if Andy Murray could win. At this point, why not have a Brit win the darn thing? That would cap off the most unpredicted, wackiest Wimbledon I can remember...

Although that Tsonga is one tough character. Murray'll have to work pretty hard to get past him.

P-Mac predicted Rafa in 4. I think Killer knew he was out on a limb. But I'd bet he thought it would be the other way around if it was split.

No, he's pretty much gotten the cake-walk of the tournament (but... to be fair, that description would only hold in a normal year, this year you could say that any of them had a relatively easy time because of all the struggling of everyone else!)

But if he wants the title, he'll have to get through either Nadal or Murray... so he'll have to earn it, one way or the other.

Right now I'm tempted to do my best to calculate exactly who should win, and then go down to the bookie and BET HEAVILY ON EVERYONE ELSE. Seems like the only way to get a can't-lose scenario!

Rafa should win. But that doesn't mean he will.

The only guy who's beaten Rafa at Wimbledon since 2005 is out, and the last time they played there, Rafa won anyway. So, he currently holds the best consecutive record there.

Well, of course, anyone can beat anyone given the right circumstances.

But by the numbers, it surely should be Rafa's. It doesn't matter if Fed was having a bad year in 2008; he's still the only guy who's beaten him there. It's not like Federer's bad year makes the other players more able to beat Rafa. Rafa's the world #1, the only major title holder in left in the tournament, and the guy with the best Wimbledon record (by leaps and bounds) of who's left.

Besides, in Fed's good years, he only held off Rafa by slender strands when they got to the finals ('06, especially '07).

But Nadal has won here before and I predict he will again. The best player on grass is now out and I'm sure this has given him a boost. Not that he needs it, he's a damn good player. He's beaten Roger on grass before in one of the greatest finals ever played. If that doesn't make him the second best, along with being ranked #1 in the world, I don't know what does.

Give the guy some props. :)

?

He lost in 2005 to Gilles Muller in the second round. He lost to Paradorn Srichipan in 2003.

Dude. You gotta read what I write. I said "since 2005" above; the next post assumed that.

Yes, but Federer's record is ridiculously better, and he got sent packing, so
-- all's I'm sayin' is -- what does "should" have to do with it? :)
And I said that, too.

Well, I guess you can say it however you want, but 6 titles vs. 1, to me that says "pwnage". Nadal "only held off Haase by slender strands" too...
So what, though? Comparing Nadal to Federer is entirely irrelevant now, because Fed's out. It's now all about how Nadal compares to the guys who are left, and he stacks up pretty frickin' well.

The only reason I brought up Nadal's performance in the '06 and '07 finals was to show that he wasn't in those finals by fluke and it wasn't a cakewalk for Fed in either case.

I dunno, I still can't shake the feeling that he's a one-trick pony who got lucky to steal a Wimbledon and Australian when Roger was out smokin' Gwen Stefani's crack pipe.
You could say that if he hadn't reached three consecutive Wimbledon finals. Does Fed having a "bad year" mean Rafa didn't really do that? Anyone left in the draw done that? How about one final? Not to be found within the whole group.

The point is, you seem to be saying he's nothing on grass. His record says otherwise, and it puts the other guys to shame.

And if you want pwnage, check Nadal's record against any of them.
