Wim Wenders' new movie "Land of Plenty", presented at he Venice Film festival, was shot on the DVX.........
This guy, which I started to really appreciate when I first saw "Paris Texas" has gone through ALL formats.... after making music videos on HD, now he is up for another experience.

Have a look at this picture

No adapters, just plain good Chrosziel MB and the Focus ring.

( This site owned by Wenders' own Prod Company is sometimes overloaded, try hard....)

Waiting to see the movie here in Paris

Re: Wim Wenders DVX Movie

Why do you need an extra focusring on DVX?

Re: Wim Wenders DVX Movie

Great, will be nice to see the film in the next future. It look he is not shooting with the anamorphic lens, probably in squeeze mode or just letterbox.

Awesome! Funny, I just picked up the soundtrack to the movie "Until the End of the World" which he directed. The soundtrack is really good and I recommend adding it to your collection.

"No adapters, just plain good Chrosziel MB and the Focus ring. " + plenty of glassfilters.

Re: Wim Wenders DVX Movie

Wim Wender:

Interesting, looking at the rush, nobody think it was DV...Lighting and image controls made the difference. Good one for the DVX again.

Here's a full translation:

"We should have turned in numeric and, thanks to Franz Lustig, the chief-operator (camera operator), we got an extraordinary result. Besides, when we viewed the first rushes, no one thought one second, that we had shot in DV. It is especially thanks to Franz's work on light: even in outsides and day, he used some reflectors the most often, and for the scenes of insides or night, the lighting was also set as if filming on 35 mm. But the advantage of the numeric, it is that one could work easily the picture and adjust the contrast, the density, the colors etc."

I guess I have translated it properly. If not, then any french speaker's could correct me. My French is a bit rusty.

All the best

Fidel.

PS: I didn't really know about Wim Wenders until recently, and I have heard a few guys say that his movies suck. Is that true?

Re: Wim Wenders DVX Movie

I think instead of "numeric", it should translate to "digital"...

I love Wim Wenders films, especially Wings of Desire. He's had a couple of doozies, but who hasn't?

Re: Wim Wenders DVX Movie

I think his first work in DV was Buena Vista Social Club... But I don't know the camera for that film!!!

BTW: GREAT MOVIE!!!

Re: Wim Wenders DVX Movie

and i've just missed a special screening of this film, with Wenders himself, today at the film school here in Berlin... >:(

Re: Wim Wenders DVX Movie

but hey, i just got my fifth star :o :D ::)

see, how easy it is to make me happy again

araujofh :
your translation was good enough Thx for the job !
Josicleverson :
Buena Vista was shot with the old DSR 500 in 625/50 plus his own small PD 150
Wenders always gets a great DoP, they all are masters in using (catching) natural light but also composing "controlled" environnements....remember Robby Müller on "Paris Texas" or the late Master Henri Alekan on "Wings of Desire" ( Der Himmel über Berlin ) the one who shot the classic "Beauty and the Beast" by Jean Cocteau.
When I was young, I was a big Fan of Nestor Almendros and his (extreme) naturalistic style, opposite to that of Alekan. Since I joined the Club, I learned that both men were great creators of mood, and Wenders is on the same line with his directorial work.
When you look at his books and Photographic work you know what I mean.
BTW..... nobody is perfect. Many Hits and a couple of misses...not too bad for a career !

Yes, I just realized that. I was translating the word instead of the meaning.

IMDb says Buena Vista Social Club was digital BetaCam transfered to 35mm.

EDIT: IMDb says Land of Plenty also 35mm print.

Re: Wim Wenders DVX Movie

Some of Buena Vista was shot on miniDv. The DigiBeta was delayed in arriving in Cuba and that's all they had to shoot with.

Re: Wim Wenders DVX Movie

If I recall correctly, DP Robbie Mueller shot the big multi camera concert footage in Digibeta and xfrd to 35. some of the mini dv stuff shot doc style by Wim's wife was just pre prod scout material that was just too good to not include in the finished film. I think this included footage shot in one of the musicians homes. Kind of rough and raw but priceless stuff.
