They are authorized, and they do have a great price, but they bundle a ton of stuff with their stuff. I did not like the service, the pushy upselling. I recommend EVS, they are great, helpfull, timely in response, and they really know their stuff. You are just going to get better service by going to EVS.
They are an authorized reseller, according to Panasonic's website.
Their overall reputation on resellerratings.com is pretty good, but read through the reviews and you'll see several "very dissatisfied" entries, where people report that Willoughbys is engaging in similar bait 'n' switch-style tactics as employed by the notorious Brooklyn stores.
So I'd say that if you're going to deal with Willoughby's, you should be extremely clear about exactly what you're ordering, what you will not be ordering, and that you expect a genuine, authorized US unit with factory warranty, and I'd strongly recommend that you don't let them pump up the price on you with any of their overpriced accessories (especially anything that says "Sakar" or "Digital Optics" on it!)
If you can order the camera itself, and only the camera (with no extended warranty or accessory kits or anything like that) and they actually deliver it in a reasonable time frame, then maybe it's okay. Beware that if you have to return it for any reason, they can hit you with a 15% restocking fee! That's about $500 that you'd have to pay them just to get them to take it back.
And if they yank you around at all, I'd say to let Jan Crittenden know. Authorized dealers should behave professionally. If they send you a gray-market camera or in any other way engage in any questionable tactics, that may endanger their "authorized" status.
I got my DVX from Willoughby's online last summer. It was the best (legit) price at the time -- US camera with warranty arrived on time. Everything worked except for that peculiar click
I didn't buy any accessories, and I don't remember any pressure to buy more, but I had dealt with a couple of the Crooklyn stores before that so I may have had my "NO MEANS NO" rap down.
Don't need a rap. Just need to lie. "No, thanks. I'm just buying this as a replacement for the one I dropped during a run-and-gun at [insert a recent big news event]. I've still got all the accessories from the dead one."
Can't argue much with that. And makes you sound even moreso like you know what's what.
I got my DVX from Willoughby's today (by UPS). It was the best price and no shipping costs (sorry Rush). I ordered friday morning and they called friday afternoon to verify the order. I got my trackingnumber on saturday, and delivered on monday. So far so good.
Hey
I got my dvx from them as well. After I placed the order online they called to confirm the order which makes sense because of credit card fraud and such. Anyway they asked if I wanted any extra batteries, I said no thanks and that was it. It wasnt anything I couldnt handle. I didnt have any problems ordering from them.
