I know its all rumors and angry talk since WWDC hardly acknowledged the existence of pro apps. There has been a lot of talk on these boards and others, and editorials in the trades about the demise of pro apps and Apple moving more towards consumer electronics. What will you do. Cast Your vote.

I don't want to throw rocks at you :) but I'll wait untill FCS3 and Snow Leopard to see what they are thinking. If DVDSP continues to ignore Blu-ray, for example, and FCS doesn't catch up to Adobe and Edius implementation and support of new formats, I'll seriously consider switching to Adobe but staying on a Mac, for the time being, due to a heavy investment in a Macpro. Then I would consider switching to a PC.

"Go down with the ship?" Just how important do you think you are?? You think FCP is the END ALL of Apple? Why doesn't DELL talk about running Avid? You've got to be kidding me.

However... the new MacBook Pro is a close-n-play compared to the older one.

It's way to early. If you are thinking of ditching apple just because a lack of release - why haven't people ditched RED after the first fifty of so failed releases? (exaggerating a tad)

FCP is working fine for everyone using it. Give it time. Plus, it's only been two years since the last release. Stop trying to run on the "apple is going down" hype.

I think it's been 2 years.

I also think there's middle ground between being a mac fanatic no matter what and automatically jumping ship. You use a tool as long as it works for you. I'm excited about the possibilities of FCS 3 and a bit anxious about the potential changes. But in the meantime FCS2 works just fine for me every day.

... I just like to throw rocks at people!

And word has it that the next release of FCP will run on an iPhone....Shhhhhh, you didn't hear it here. ;-)

I've never seen such backlash and talk of jumping ship on various message boards as I have in the past week. (regarding Apple and FCP)

Final Cut Studio does everything I need it to do. Jeez, it seems like I just upgraded to Studio 2 the other day. People are lusting after the "next great thing" more and more these days. Settle down, Beavis.

OOps, you are right Jim, I looked it up on the interwebz and FCS2 came out at NAB 2007. Didn't seem like that long ago though.

Wow lots of rocks. :) This is in response to all the chatter I have seen. personally I am on Avid on PC but worked on MACS for years and think they are brilliant.

This is interesting, keep casting your votes and your rocks.

I wasn't suggesting Apple will be out of business. I am suggesting they will be more profitable as a consumer electronics company and cease future developments on pro apps and make hardware with mass consumers in mind rather than creative professionals.

If anything Apple has solidified its place in the market, but its future in pro production I think is questionable should they continue to go down this ipath.

I am biased and here's why: At my current job we have two systems/computers: An Avid Adrenaline and Final Cut Studio. The Avid system is older and has been BOGGED DOWN with uncleaned up projects and media. It operates like a dying dog. OTOH, the Mac is streamlined and runs like a charm. Just makes sense for me to move off the Avid and get projects done on a fast machine.

I loved working on Avid. I even re-mapped some of my keyboard shortcuts in FCP to emulate Avid. I just never have any problems doing my workload on a Mac. (granted, they are not complex projects) No crashes, moves fast, plays nice with After Effects. It's all win-win for me.

Wow, an Avid vs. FCP thread, this have never been done before, right? Can I throw another rock at you for the hell of it, Jason?

I find this is all highly irrelevant since there are many MORE rumors that Apple's pro-app updates are launching this fall right after Snow Leopard. The project is codenamed "Sideways", do a google news search for "Apple Sideways" and/or "Apple Dingo" (for the new version of Final Cut Server) or just search "Final Cut Studio 3"

The new pro-apps have been rewritten in cocoa/64-bit to take full advantage of Snow Leopard's new software architecture, Grand Central Dispatch, and of course, OpenCL. the speed improvements are supposed to be phenomenal. There is supposedly major updates to Final Cut Pro and Motion (possibly the long rumored combining of Motion + Shake?) and Soundtrack Pro, with a UI overall of Color. DVD Studio Pro is rumored from current builds to be a minor update with no new features, as Apple lately seems to have been abandoning the optical disk format, ie, no Blu-Ray suppot (lame).

Anyway, point being, with all the rumors, it is much more likely that the new apps are on their way right after snow leopard and have been rewritten to really show off what Snow Leopard can do (unless you think openCL, Grand Central Dispatch, 64-bit, etc. was all about making iPhoto the freaking fastest photo browser on the planet).

In my opinion. I think Apple later this year will be embracing Pro Apps and the professional market more than EVER with Snow Leopard + Final Cut Studio 3 (and exchange support and the new business features on the iPhone 3GS).

So yes, I am sticking with Apple, because I am stoked to see what they roll out in FCS3 this fall.

DVDSP better pick up the dropped Blu-ray ball and do something worthwhile. I also think they need to make it more user friendly. Button creation in DVDSP is a daunting task that makes me wonder why they can't keep something that simple ... simple.

Also, will LT still be a part of FCS? I don't even install that. Seems like too much of a waste (especially at 10GB).

I have to agree. I think there is still an update coming. I think everyone was a bit disaponited in the announcements.

Just because I started a poll doesn't mean I don't want to see new pro apps.

It really doesn't feel that long since FCS 2 was released. Right now it works fine for me. If I were a P2 card or SxS user on a Macbook though, I'd be kinda annoyed. For me though, I really don't see myself getting into P2 or SxS unless Pany or Sony came out with a higher end video DSLR or dedicated digital cinema camera to compete with Red.

No, for my needs in the near future I'm thinking that I'll probably be using a Red or video DSLR-type camera that shoots to SDHC or Compact Flash cards. And if nothing really good comes out or is announced by late winter of 2010, at the very least I will probably switch from my A1 to an HMC150 to finally get away from tape for my wedding and event videography. Hopefully Apple will give native support of AVC-HD in the next iteration of Final Cut Studio.

Then again, with all this rapid development in the video DSLR market, I might just end up buying a couple of those types of cameras for all my video/filmmaking needs. I just hope that if the perfect video DSLR comes out this fall or winter that Apple will have the proper format and codec support in place.

DVDSP better pick up the dropped Blu-ray ball and do something worthwhile.

At least they could give those who want Blu-ray authoring capabilities a purchasable Blu-ray plug-in/add on for DVD Studio Pro. I really don't care if Apple makes their own Blu-ray drives for their Macbooks since I'm on a Mac Pro. There are already burners that can be bought and installed in the second slot of the Mac Pro or an external could be used on a Mac Pro or a Macbook.

If Apple doesn't give us support for Blu-ray when FCS 3 hits, then they are leaving the door wide open for a developer to create a pro DVD and Blu-ray authoring application that could be optimized for the Mac. Right now there is Toast, and of course Premiere, but I don't want to and shouldn't have to buy Premiere Pro just to get freaking Blu-ray support.

Worst case scenario Apple could get a third party to develop a Blu-ray plug-in for DVD Studio Pro. That way they can downplay the fact that they are not supporting Blu-ray.

From MacSoda.com

"Listen up everyone! After a false alarm, I spoke with my source and got some things clarified. Here’s the deal: Major updates to Apple’s Pro Apps will be coming at WWDC this year. This is 100 percent confirmed."
