Will xSpeed of CF Card make noticeable difference for video?

Hey guys,

I'm going to be working with a Canon 7D to shoot music videos. Music videos sometimes call for a lot of slow motion scenes so sometimes I will need to shoot at high frames per second and high shutter speeds. I'm researching which compact flash card to buy. I know that CF speeds effect data transfer rates to and from your computer and also affects the speed the data is written to the card. I have read that this is beneficial with shooting continuous sill images. My question is, for HD video, will I see much of a change in video quality between a card thats 30 MB/sec (x200) versus 45 MB/sec (x300) and 60 MB/sec (around x400). I'm considering getting a Sandisk 16 gig 60 MB/sec but I'm wondering if I really need to spend that extra money for a faster card? Even with slow motion shots, will I really need that 60 MB/sec power? or will I be paying for more power than I actually need?

Thanks in Advance

The type of storage card (ie- write speed) has nothing to do with video quality. Just follow the owner's manual for your camera, where they will state the minimum card that the camera supports. Buying anything faster than recommended is up to you (UHS-1, for example).

Magic Lantern will let you up the bitrate, but since you're using a 7D it doesn't matter. Just don't get a card that is too slow or you will experience buffer errors that stop the video prematurely. Minimum and higher will yield the same results.

The card speeds are usually given for photographers...the faster the card, the more frames they can take per second before the camera starts buffering the data. Regarding video, the data rate is usually constant so any decent Class 6+ card should be fine for 7D video.

The exception is if you're doing VFR, which I don't think the 7D can do...

i cant imagine it would have any effect on quality. it would be an issue of either working or not working.
