Will this work for me?

Just a quick post for some advice before I purchase my new PC. I realised that before I try saving up for a HVX that I'd need a computer that I'd be able to use it with...as my current only just handles miniDV..lol....so I'm updating...this is what I'm going for...it's a Dell system

Intel Pentium D 820 Dual Core Processor
2.8ghz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800mhz FSB
Intel 945G Chipset

2GB (4x512) NECC Dual Channel DDR2 533MHz SDRAM Memory
256MB PCIe x16 ATi Radeon X600
19" LCD
250GB HDD
16X DVD+/-RW DL Burner
7.1 Audio
Firewire Card
13-in-1 Memory Card Reader

I would think that that could handle working with DVCPRO HD? For now I'm only going to be working in SD until I can get the funds to nab a HVX.

The work I'll be doing includes editing, visual effects and just general graphic design work.

cheers

The only thing I see that might hold you back is a lack of hard drive space. Are you going to have a g-raid or some other dedicated media drive?? What NLE are you working with? Their recommended specs are probably worth looking at before plopping down your hard earned.

i'll be working with Premiere 1.5 for now...looking to upgrade to 2.0 soon as well.

as for hard drive space I've got several external drives which I plan on using for footage storage.

I would add another monitor. Even a cheap 19" CRT. You gotta have two.
I'm not sure Premiere will edit HD coming out of a HVX. Canopus Edius is the best of the bunch for a PC.

My other advice might be to wait and get the camera and computer at the same time. If you plan on buying the HVX in 6-9 months, you will probably get a better(cheaper) system than the one you are looking at getting from Dell today.
