Will this hurt my sensor ...

Dust/dirt aside ...

Can it harm the sensor to expose it directly to light for too long with no lens? I've been working on some effects doing this and want to make sure I won't risk damaging the sensor.

I'm not doing it for hours at hand, but maybe a few minutes.

Thanks

I don't know the answer to this, but in general I don't think it will cause any harm -- depending, of course, on what kind of light you're talking about and how bright. I wouldn't recommend exposing the sensor to direct sunlight or to a laser, but if it's light that your eyes can comfortably tolerate then I can't really think of why that would be harmful to a sensor...

Of course, leaving it exposed will make it a lot more susceptible to attracting dust so you'll have to clean it more.

If someone knows of a valid reason why this process would be harmful please let JPschmidt know... doesn't SEEM like it would be harmful...

Thanks, Barry.

Yea it's nothing too bad, usually light in a room or light from a window, nothing like pointing it at the sun or at a 1000watt light :p
average light, but thanks for the quick response :)

and please if anyone knows anything let me know, I'd like to do more experimenting but wanna know what I might be in for, first.

Thanks!
