Will the Libec TH-650DV tripod hold my DVX?

Hi everybody,

At the moment I am using a terrible el-cheapo tripod (60 dollars) for my DVX100. I have no money for a entrylevel pro tripod, but for the time being I am considering a slightly better one. That should cost me no more than let's say 200 US dollars (but I'm in Europe so the dollars are just a translation for this question).

There are three tripods that I like just from the looks and specs. I am aware that within a year or so I'll probably dislike them too, but we'll see about that when we get there.

The three I have on my list:
1. Libec TH-650DV (@ $206)
2. Velbon DV7000 (@ $160)
3. Benro KH-25 (@ $206)

Obviously the better ones are not on my list, because of budget limitations.

This month I am shooting a musicvideo and I'll rent a tripod along with the lights. That will probably be a more professional one (@ $10 a day and cheaper if rented longer).

Please advice!

Jasper

You want a good sturdy and smooth tripod. Any of the ones you listed are good though. Depending on what you rig on your DVX, the tripod should support at least 6-10 lbs. The DVX is about 4 lbs by itself.

Thanks Andy. My DVX100 is used pretty naked. So I think I can safely upgrade from scratch to something like mentioned above.

Get the Libec, I have the LS382a and the TH-950dv. See if you can borrow the extra few bucks for the 950. Its a nice fluid head perfect for the DVX, otherwise the 650 will be ok but its not great.

Thanks Shaun. I checked out the 950 and I can find some that are 'only' $65 more. That amount I can squeeze out I think (my birthday is comming up, hahaha). I'll go to a store to see it in reality. (Probably a good idea anyway, not just buying based on web browsing.)

I just ordered the Wako KH-1180RM. My wife collected money from friends and family behind my back as a birthday present. They coughed up 760 dollar!

I decided to split that up and buy a tripod on the one hand, and a Rode NTG2 with Rycote kit on the other: here.

I am so happy. Even though I am no longer 36 years old as of yesterday. I can live with that now that I have had this amazing present.

Thanks Andythefilmer and Shaun for giving me some usefull directions in this small thread with a happy ending.
