Will Panasonic eventually use CMOS chips?

Maybe the next generation of the HVX will have CMOS chips.

Here's an interesting link with technical info on CMOS and CCD differences in todays HDTV scenario

I know my brother swears by his CMOS equipped Canon SLR over CCD based SLR cameras for blowing up images to large poster sized prints. It's interesting to learn how these chips differ in the video world :)

I remember when it was CCD vs. MOS sensors. Way back then, the CCD had the edge over MOS as far as low lighting. Today, we have the better form, CMOS and yes CMOS video cameras are being used. It's like a horse race that never ends. In this case, the dark horse, MOS, came in strong in the later laps.

So, yes it seems likely that we'll see more CMOS video cameras as the technology improves.

CMOS will one day be the standard, as of today it is still not ready fro prime time for the general professional market. Ikegami has been working with CMOS for a number of years for their new Editcam Camcorders and the sensors still have issues in them. Panasonic has decided to stay with CCD on the higher end cameras 9HDX900 and the new 2000 P2) until the quality and reliability improves.
