Will muzzle flash cause glitching?

Recently, someone took a picture while I was filming and the flash actually caused a glitch, (horizontal line momentarily) across the screen.

My question is, will the muzzle flash from a firearm cause this as well?

I have a scene coming up and need to do multiple gun shots and am wondering if I should skip the blank firing gun and CGI it in post, or will this not work out good.

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks

Probably. Flash-band (partial frame exposure) artifacts are inherent in most CMOS sensor & rolling shutter technology, including the one in the GH1.

Having said that, it's impossible to confirm if your muzzle flashes will do it for certain because there's a bit of variability involved, but most likely, yes, most CMOS-based cams (including the GH1) are susceptible to flash-band artifacts.

I'm pretty sure that the bullet coming out of the barrel, into the lens will cause more of a glitch...

I'd say unlikely - a muzzle flash is typically not as bright as a photoflash, ie; it will not light up everything in the entire frame. But make two takes - one with and one without. Muzzle flashes are also dead easy to add in post. In fact so easy I doubt I do a real one anymore unless there's meant to be some major fire fight. Have you seen Video Co-pilot's Action Essentials stock shots?

I doubt it would, unless your shot is a close up on the muzzle and the ambient light is pretty low. Otherwise it's small and not much of an actual flash. The only way to know is to test it.
