Will miniDV record HD quality?

My concern: Will not using the P2 cards and recording onto miniDV still produce the same high quality HD images? Or is miniDV not capable of recording HD data?

Has been discussed numerous times. miniDV tapes can only hold video at 25mbit/s, which is miniDV SD video only. For anything else, such as DVCPRO50 (50mbit/s) and DVCPRO100/HD(100mbit/s) you have to either use P2 or an external hard drive.
