Will DVCAM tapes play in HVX?

I have an editing project coming up with a video that was shot on DVCAM tapes, can I capture those using my HVX?

I'm pretty sure they will... I know I played back DVCAM tapes in a DVX, so I would think they'd also play in the HVX but... I don't think I've tried it, so not 100% sure.

Thanks Barry, after talking more with the company I think they are the larger format DVCAM tapes so I will have to find a deck anyways.

Seriously? I did not know that Panasonic devices support DVCAM.

The DVX did, being from the pro line. DVCAM is only really an adjustment to the tape speed, it's not really anything other than that. It's like the opposite of LP mode. LP mode runs the tape slower, DVCAM runs the tape faster, but other than that there's no difference.

Well, there is one difference, in that DVCAM uses locked audio, and miniDV's spec calls for unlocked audio. But the DVX and the JVC DV500 implemented locked audio in DV anyway. Maybe that's why the DVX (and, presumably, the DV500) can play back DVCAM?
