will a normal minidv keep the progressive?

If I use a low cost miniDV cam to play and load my footage (so i don´t burn my DVX´s heads) to my Avid on my PC will I still be able to start a 25p project? Will it still be recognized as 25p on the Avid 5.0?
Or does it have to be played and digitized with the DVX to start a 25p project?

Yes, you can use a low cost camera for uploading because the progressive recording doesn't have anything to do with the actual record heads in the camera. It happens before the data goes onto the tape, so you will be fine. As long as both systems are PAL (I assume you use PAL since you said 25p) you will be fine. It's all 1's and 0's
 
Yeah, that's what I've done too. It worked really well. And it beats having to have the DVX sitting out. Wish I still had it, the ex has it now. Sigh... back to using the DVX till something else comes around...
 
Im buying a Sony DCR HC 42E..is tht good to use...for digitising instead of the dvx. can you suggest me few others. if ths' nt good enough
