Wierd streaky lines

hey folks.

had a wierd experience with my Sony Pro DV Cam yesterday (not my DVX 100) and wondering if anyone knows what went wrong.

Was filming at night at an outdoor concert and immediately after i turned my camera on and pointed it in the direction of light...these crazy laser-beam looking streaks started coming out of any direct point of light. the stage lights looked like lasers in my viewfinder. i figured it was just a viewfinder problem and kept recording. when i got back to the studio...all of the same light streaks were on the tape/video. all of the closeups of faces, etc. with diffused light look completely normal and fine, but almost all of the wide shots are warped by these light streaks

is it possible that my iris is "broken"? or my shutter maybe? anyone have any ideas?

thanks in advance.

This is an instance where a mechanical shutter would be nice :)

It's called vertical smear, it's no fault of your own, rather your camera uses a digital shutter, in other words a fake shutter that determines at what intervals the image enters the camera (ie 1/60, 1/125 etc.) rather than a real mechanical shutter.

thanks for the quick reply. does this mean my shutter is damaged now? because it never used to do this...ive used the camera at night for months now without a problem. it's now had this problem 2 days in a row (continued with an indoor shoot today) and i dont know how to resolve it.

Can you post any images? Are you certain when it wasn't doing this that you were using it under similar circumstances?

This usually happends when you film the sun, or immense light is hitting the camera, and the light is very directional. You might want to drive a ND filter in the daylight and Night all I can say it change angles.
