Widest angle lens with an aperture between f.95 & f1.4 on the market

But still none of those are hitting his requested f/0.95 to f/1.4 range...

(because those lenses just don't exist, nothing's that fast at that wide...)

And yes, the Lumix 7-14 is f/4, but it's incredibly wide and overall really pretty awesome. Stretchy in the corners though, gotta watch out for that.

Hi Steve,

Kubrick used the Zeiss in "Barry Lyndon" and the Tegea in "Clockwork". I am not sure that there is any optic around for nearly the price with the specs of the Voigtlander right now. You can go and look for a Leica but it costs a fortune. Honestly the Voigtlander is about to become my standard lens for my GH13 right now but this is not primarily because it is so fast but because it is so sharp and focusses down to 0.17 meter and is nearly a macro too. It is nice and sturdy, has a long focus throw and feels terribly wonderfully reliable (& old school - which I am too). And it's hell - pure hell - to pull focus with it at 0.95 to 1.4. As it would be with any lens that fast.

Sure Kubrick's Zeiss was f0.7 but the Voightlander is only 0.87 stops slower. But perhaps the AF100 is more sensitive than the pre-flashed, pushed film he used in Barry Lyndon.
Barry Lyndon was shot on 5254, which is 100 ISO. Using the Voightlander on an AF100 at 200 ISO gives you more sensitivity than Kubrick had with that 0.7 lens on the film they used. And yes they push-processed it to squeeze more out of it, but that makes it grainier and flatter, the same thing gain does, so -- you could gain up the AF100 in the same way. Overall yes, I think you'll get much finer grain and better overall sensitivity out of an AF100 w/Voigtlander 0.95 lens, than you would out of 1968-era 5254 film stock, push-processed, shot through an f0.7 lens.

Yes. It's terrible whenever the physical and economical intermingle in such unbecoming ways...... ;-) The 7 - 14 mm is for me something like the Lotus Super Seven of lenses. Strange creature and both raunchy and elegant at the same time.

Agreed. Sometimes it seems like there's nothing that lens can't do. And then there's times it makes shots like this...

I love this lens. Can't wait for the 25mm f/0.95 to show up. I've got a particular scene in mind for that...

You just listed my reasons for thinking this is going to be my MAIN lens on the AF100.

It really has the perfect focal length for the majority of situations. Yes it is great for low light but it is sharp too. It has 10 aperture blades and just a beautiful bokeh which you can call up without having to resort to using a longer lens.

When I visited Duclos last month they said they would have no problems doing their cinemod to it. Not sure if I'm going to de-click the aperture but will have them put on a focus ring.

Wow. Thought this was photo-shopped first. Good lucking guy with great glasses.... ;-)

Hope you will like the Voigtlander. At 0.95 it's slightly softer and in the extreme corners also a tiny bit darker ... but that was to be expected, me thinks. Don't know where they got the technlogy from but as they seem to own also old patents from Schneider / Kreuznach, the may have developed that from a 0.95 lens this company had build for 16mm/Super 8.

I had my eyes also on old Kern Switars but the do not cover the sensor completely, I believe. Wait for Voigtlander to come around with something like a 12 or 14 mm in their "old school" modus.

Am still searching for a company that cinemizes lenses for a reasonable price in my country - no luck so far. Will have more night-shots from the Voigtlander on Vimeo on Monday, maybe.

Thanks guys. after reading all of your post I believe I have narrowed it down. I will be purchasing the 25mm Voigtlander 0.95 with a wide angle attachment. That 0.95 will come in handy for sure. Since I will be only using it for select shots the pluses should out way the negatives plus the Voigtlander looks to be a great stand alone lens next to my Zeiss ZF lens set. I still need help in choosing a great wide angle attachment lens. I'm looking for the sharpest and cleanest quality attachment for under $1500.00.

This really did it for me.

I think what you're asking for doesn't exist. You might get close with some Super16 fast lenses but I doubt they'll cover the full AF100 frame. You could try renting some Zeiss or Optar Illumina Super16 cinema lenses, maybe something like the 12mm or 16mm will come close to covering (and they're T1.3) but I doubt it.

Hi. Zeiss 16mm HS (f1.2) from super 16 lenses cover the frame.

Not every S16 lens can cover the M4/3 frame, but maybe we can find the individual lenses that can, and try to get hold of them. That would be pretty gratifying, especially since those lenses are not as high-priced as 35mm...

My 16mm and 25mm (and up) Zeiss HS lenses (with Arri bayonet) cover fully the M4/3 sensor (the 12mm crop)... One of the most decisive reason because I bought the GH2.

Wow. Can you post grabs or video from the GH2+16mm? How is the corner and overall performance on mtf sensor compared to s16 film?
