Render the video at the size you want...image size without bars...and set it to not letterbox (stretch to fill frame).

I render a lot at 480x270 (square pixels for computer/web). My math isn't good enough to figure television ratios. :)

What format are you converting from? Are you converting for the web only? What software are you using to convert?

I do a similar method using Sorenson Squeeze to make WMV's for the web... and there are no black bars and it's 16:9.

im trying to do this with footage that is not anamorphic...its just regular footage that i shot on the dvx100b using the widescreen function that puts in the black bars

is it still possible to do using sony vegas? and if so, How?

thanks again

if you're asking me does vegas have something similar to premiere's image pan. if not you could crop and then render out the size you want or need.

I finally figured out how to do it in FCP. Rather simple actually.

I just changed the sequence settings to reflect the widescreen footage that I had in terms of resolution.

Then I went to compressor and made a new compressor setting that had that same resolution as it's output and exported the file.

Oh baby how sweet it was! I'm excited to make some widdeeeeeeeeeee movies now.

I feel like I'm not helping you, but I'll tell you that I shot it with the letterbox on the DVX and then got some photoshop action going that cropped the black bars off and resized it in genuine fractals. Then I did the stuff above and it worked...

ok i figured out how to do it in vegas..here is a little tutorial

first right click on the footage and then click "Video Event Pan/Crop"

then in the presets set it to "16:9 Widescreen TV aspect ratio"

then you go to Project Video Properties and change the video size how you want it..i used 480x270

then change the pixel ratio to "1.0000 (Square)"

that should get rid of all the black lines.

*if anyone knows a quicker way to crop the footage it would help this process alot because it takes forever to crop each video segment especially if you have a lot of edits

You can always nest the clips so it's just one long sequence then apply the Video Event Pan/Crop at the very end. That should be a lot faster than just doing it to every clip.

If you nest it, you can't directly manipulate the individual clips in your "main" project.

You can crop one clip, copy it, then select all of the others and choose "Paste Event Attributes." It will apply the same crop to all the other clips. Of course, it will apply any effects or envelopes, too, so do it first.

Cory, for 16:9 video, just use a Widescreen project. Don't make the changes you made to the whole project template. You're only going to adversely affect your playback and render speeds that way.

Now, using the Widescreen project template, when you RENDER, use those settings you mentioned.
