widescreen export is not quite widescreen

I created a music video that I filmed with a Panasonic DVX100-B in 24p mode - had squeeze on in aspect conv (menu of camera) - the finished product is ALMOST widescreen .. there's about an inch missing from each side. The original footage (capture scratch) is fine. It is fully widescreen so the issue is something I'm doing in FCP2. I am using latest 6.03. I've tried both with 16x9 anamorphic checked and unchecked and get the same result. What am I missing?

Damon,
Me thinks it is your timeline that is giving you the problems. Command + 0 - check your sequence preset is anamorphic BEFORE you edit to it.

Of course, it may be something totally different...

the settings on the sequence are/were set to anamorphic and there is no 4:3 footage in it. All footage was shot in 24p squeeze mode.. To reiterate: the export comes out ALMOST widescreen .. About an inch short on the width.

Hi Damon, I had a similar problem when viewing my footage with QT. It looked very 16:9ish in Premiere but when exported to QT it looked like 4:3. Then I tried exporting to .avi and it seemed to work fine, but not perfect. There were suggestions on changing the resolution and pixel aspect ratio, see if anything in this thread helps: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=134549

It seems to happen when you export straight to quicktime.
If you export through Compressor (with custom>16:9 checked in the inspector) it will come out fine.

you can export right from FCP timeline using quicktime conversion. just make sure you set the custom size to 16x9 ratio. I often use 560x315 pixels for web versions or 720x405 for large version
