Widescreen cropped !!!! (help)

damage

New member
Hey, this is my first time here so sorry if this is a newbie question.

I'm digitizing dvx100 footage that has been shot in widescreen mode in an Final Cut Pro system. However once this footage comes in it is cropped!
Yet when I digitize DVX100A footage shot in 16:9 it comes in the right way.

Anyone have an idea what's happening here?

Thanks

Hello damage,

I think you may need to clarify what you mean by "widescreen mode". Are you referring to anamorphic footage? If you are shooting with the anamorphic adapter or using the in camera squeeze function, you will need to change the pixel aspect ratio to 1.2:1 in your NLE.

I am not a FCP user, so you might need to check how you conform the footage. In Premier Pro it is a very simple matter and I would assume that it is just as simple to accomplish in FCP.

Ah, you might have something there.
The producer mentioned something about "anamorphic".

So 1.2:1 you say?

now can I change this once the footage has already been captured or d I have to capture it at that setting?

EDIT: Just re-read your question. So, the DVX100 footage is cropped but the DVX100A footage looks correct? Please Elaborate. Are you in a 16:9 capture preset and a 16:9 timeline or what? Is the DVX100a footage in squeeze mode or from an anamorphic attachment lens? LMK.

You should not need to recapture the footage but your NLE does need to know about the intended pixel aspect ratio to handle the footage properly. As I mentioned in my previous post, I am not a FCP user so I can't direct you to the exact steps. From the posts here, I am assuming that you are the editor for this project and were not involved in the shooting. You should speak with the DP and find out how the camera was configured so that you can set up your NLE appropriately. Have you viewed any of the raw (unedited) footage that was captured outside of your NLE? This might clarify the matter.
