Wide Screen From Film Screen

I have been asked by my local historical society to tape an old 1940's 32mm film of the local area off of the local theatre screen. It will be taped and rendered to DVD in the Wide Screen format. Due to low light considerations I will not be using 24p advanced. If anyone has taped (wide screen) from a theatre screen (like the hackers do) I would appreciate your "hindsight" suggestions to help me get this right the first time. Thanks

I have no experience with this, but I suppose I can throw in some common sense suggestions.

I'm assuming there's some good reason you can't just use a professional telecine facility. If there's only a bad reason, do yourself a favor and get it done right.

The next best bet would be to try different settings. Don't rule out 24p, since you'll want to try using a 1/24 shutter with it. I would also try 30p with 1/30 shutter, and 60i. I strongly suspect that faster shutter speeds won't look as good, but if you have time you should try those too.

If you can't even experiment then, of course, you'll have to take a guess. My guess would be that 60i would work best, but that advice is worth excatly what you paid for it.

Good luck!

I ended up taping 24p with an anamorphic lens and it looked fine. It was black and white so decent quality wasn't difficult to acheive. I'll keep your suggestions in mind if I am asked to do this again. Thanks
