GH4 Wide Lens for GH4 on Glidecam

Isn't the 12/2 available in a Nikon mount?

EDIT: Ah shoot, I got confused. I was thinking of the 16/2 for APS cameras.

Sometimes you have to stretch the budget a bit for quality, running you Glidecam you need to rig light, nikon glass is superb but tends to be heavy when you get into the zooms. Had a bunch of the f2.8s that I used with my FS100 so very familiar with them.

See if you can find a shop with the Olympus 12-40 and try it, the lens is light, fast on focus and optically superb and definitely a lens you will never regret buying. I picked mine up off eBay for Aus$800 and it is basically brand new, so they are around for less than the retail price.

I've got a friend who has the Olympus 12-40. I'll borrow his. It's a really nice lens.

Sounds like a Nikon-mount Tokina 11-16 with a Speedbooster is what you need. Adaptable, fast, nice and wide but you can zoom a bit if you want to go slightly tighter.

There's that new Samyang/Rokinon 12mm f2 too. Or the Olympus 12mm f2 would actually still be cheaper than the Tokina + Speedbooster. These would be lighter options, which is definitely an important consideration with a Glidecam. Not adaptable, or zoomable, or very wide, though.

There is a real opportunity here for a lens manufacturer to step up to the plate with the right lens in an M43 mount that doesn't cost a fortune. For what you are describing, I would pay the money for the Panasonic 12-35 2.8 OIS.

Ah, I see, so a Nikon mount would probably work best?

Nikon was my preferred mount choice. When I made the decision on what glass to really invest in, I consulted with some DP friends. I knew that I probably will not be sticking with M4/3 my entire career, so I needed something I could adapt to the range of cameras I could possibly buy in the future or encounter on shoots. About all of them said Nikon was the right choice. While I know this is subject to debate, It seems that the Nikon is the most adaptable today while also allowing control over critical aspects like Aperture.

I also do agree that a lens manufacturer needs to step up and make a nice affordable wide M4/3 lens. I think I'm pretty settled on the Tokina 11-16, but I may end up renting to make sure. Weight is not an issue with the Glidecam I have; It was originally used with heavier cameras than what the GH4 + Tokina 11-16 will weigh.

Along with my rental, I'll also be trying the Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 and Rokinon 12mm F2.0. I'll also post some tests and results to this thread when they get in.

(A thought in my mind that probably carries no weight: If the 11-16 is good enough for people to convert it to a Cine PL lens, it's probably good enough for me.)
