Wide angle shots of the HVX

How does wide angle outdoor HVX footage shot in 720p compare to footage shot with a JVC HD101? I do a lot of outdoor bright light shooting with wide angle shots to fit in scenery etc and am always disappointed with the graininess/loss of detail in the image.

They're about the same.

If you're using the HD100 for exteriors, watch your f-stop. If your f-stop is too low (f/11 or f/16) then you'll lose a ton of sharpness due to diffraction. On an HD100 the lens is (let's be charitable here) cheap, and you really want to stick to around f/4 or 5/6 to get its best results. Use external ND filters if you have to.

That would have to be some of the best advice I have ever received!! Thankyou so much, I live in a very sunny country and because of this am always suffering from bright light, I was told to keep things around F8, but in most cases even with the ND filter set on 2 things are more like F11 or just about closed, which explains the grain. :-(

Would a polarising filter help in a situation like this? I had a major hassle with the polarising filter I was sold by my dealer, I was blaming back focus until I realised it was the polariser that was causing the cam from not being able to obtain full focus on objects at 5 metres or less at full zoom!!! Sorry about this, I know this is an HVX forum and here I am hassling you about my HD101!! :-)
