Wide angle nikon

I was so close to buy nikon 28mm f/2.8 to use on my sgpro and then I heard that it makes a lot of vignetting. Any one any experience with this lens? I need one wide angle that will generaly be suitable for car interiors, small rooms, and crane shots that won't need to much focusing. But not to much barrel distortion.
I don't have budget to buy more than one. Have 85mm, 50mm and just what is missing is one wide.
Please what you suggest?

i use two wide angles with my sgpro. 28mm f2.8 and 20mm f.28 both nikons. i use the 20mm more than the 28 because of the ultra wide angle view. i really dont have any barrel distortion or vignetting with either. it all really depends on how much you zoom with the sgpro my zoom is set to z78. but they both work well for me esp. the 20mm. if its lit well you can get great images. i hope this helps.

Yes it helps. Thanks a lot, I was going to see some sigma wide angles, they are fast f/1.8.
Anyone uses sigma 28mm or 20mm?

Haven't used a Sigma but have both the 20 & 28mm Nikkor lenses. Same deal... have to zoom in to 25mm on the HVX with both lenses to reduce vignetting but the results are clean and great looking with my LEX. Especially like the 20 for wide perspective.

Nikon 28 F2.8 is crap. If you can affotd Nikon 17-35 F2.8 rocks!
Do you mean AF-S lens or manual, if you think about AF-S can you use it efectivly with follow focus as manual lenses, I see these lenses have focus ring that will turn even if you passed macro or infinity.

I agree on the 17-35. Great lens but it does have a short focus throw. However, the wide lenses can be set for a hyperfocal distance therefore not needing a focus pull on some shots. It's an expensive lense but take the place of a few primes.

Crap?

Crap?

My Nikkor 28mm f2.8 is one of the more superb lenses I own (5).

One of the greatest assets of the LEX is the ability to see as early film makers saw - thru the prime fixed lens. The greatest still photographers never picked up a zoom lens - they created their work with a single vision.

That is what all the 35mm adapters allow us to do today.

Having said that... to each his own.

I have a nikkor 28mm f2.8 and I think it's garbage. There must be various models, for mine is crap compared to my 50mm 1.4. I've used that zoom, and it's great. MUCH better image than the 28mm prime. Yes, it's heavier, and shorter amount of turn to focus makes it harder to FF, but it's worth it for the edge-to-edge sharpness at all zoom levels.

I used it with a Brevis.
