wide angle nikon recommendations?

Im in need of a 28mm for an upcomming shoot. I've learned real quick that I have to buy as fast of a lens as I can afford. I have a 35-105 3.5 zoom and it just wont cut it unless there is a TON of light. I'm looking at the 28mm 2.8 Nikkor and the 30mm 1.4 sigma. Any recommendations on either of those two?

The sigma will allow you to work in about one quarter the amount of light as the nikkor. I've heard mixed reviews of the sigma-fast wides. Some love them, others can't live with the lenses' faults. Quality control may be an issue with them so I'd suggest going to a camera shop and testing two or three of the 30mm 1.4 to make sure you've got a good one.

Try the Sigma 20-40 f2,8 . been using it with my adapter for a lot of projects. Bright too. for extreme situations i use 15-30 sigma. but the f stop is not constant.

I am very interested in the Sigma 20 f1.8...
Philip Bloom is shooting with it and really likes it... guess he is trustworty. I am looking into getting one of them for myself...
Though 20mm might be a bit wide, the f-stop is devastating :)

I've heard the Nikon 35mm f1.4 lens is very good and, if you need wider and can stand the extra light loss, the Nikon 28mm f2.8 is supposed to be super sharp. Ken Rockwell says its the sharpest Nikon wide angle.

Depending on what you covet more, both of those Nikons should be good choices.

I use the Sigma 20mm 1.8 with my extreme. It's a fantastic lens, but when a more subtle wide shot is required it can call attention to itself with distortion. The 28mm 2.8 Nikon is my choice for the most standard narrative wide shots like establishing shots of people at a table. The Sigma really proves its worth when you put it right up to the subject and macro focus on it, especially if you can see the background racing away towards the horizon.
