If you want to go wide, get the Nikon 17-35mm 2.8.

Expensive but superb. They are always used ones on Ebay at half/2/3rd the retail price and as long as they are clean you really can't go wrong. They are one of the best lenses Nikon has ever made. Retail around $1500, but as I said, $750-900 will get you one.

Does anyone know what the equivalents of the widest focal lengths on the DVX and HVX are with 35mm lenses?

Depends on whether you mean - academy 35 , super 35 or SLR 35? Just comparing the image to my 35mm Nikon it looked to me like the HVX at widest was a little wider than my 28mm but I've read different things on the web , as above.
