Wide Angle adapters?

I have a GH1 with a 28mm FD lens and with the 2x crop factor with the GH1, It's just not wide enough for some of the shots I need. Now obviously, its better to get a superwide lens but even for the FD lenses, they run atleast a few hundred bucks. So as a alternative option with budget in mind, how would just a wide angle adapter work?

I don't plan on using it all the time but only when I'm in a jam. How will it turn out? Will I regret buying it?

Thanks!

For $39, it doesn't look too bad...it looks like it may even have real glass in it, instead of plastic. Because of the crop factor, you'll be shooting through the sweet spot of the lens anyways, and so there's a good chance that distortion won't be too bad.

It's still a $39 adapter, it's probably not coated, and it will, without question degrade image quality (the degree to which is unknown) and you'll probably lose at least a stop of light...but still, that wouldn't necessarily make it unusable...it might just work in certain circumstances reasonably well.

I am curious about this myself, although the eBay listing is somewhat confusing. In one spot it reads that it is guaranteed not to distort the image, and below that, it indicates that it can be used for creative curvature of field and fisheye effects, so it's not entirely clear what this adapter will do. Haven't been able to find any reviews of it online either, so it's certainly a gamble...but at $39, not too much of a gamble, and worst case you can probably off-load it on eBay for not much less than you paid for it...so it's probably worth a try! I'm sure everyone here would be curious to see your results. If you like flare effects, this will almost certainly help create some massive ones in the right circumstances.

I have one of those wide angle converters. Mine is a .42x macro wide angle, made in japan, glass, etc etc. – pretty much exactly what you are buying. There is definitely a loss in image quality and the optical flare effects makes some of the footage hazy. Oh well you get what you paid for (I also paid $40) . Also, there is no distortion so it will work with those wide shots you say you need. Again, the converter is a cheap alternative but obviously you won't get the same quality as a real wide angle lens.
