Wide angle adapters

Do they fit the filter thread in the front of the Fuji lens? I have the 17x7.6 BERM and would be interested in a WA adapter like this if they fit the lens.

I use the the .5 for exaggerated wide angle effects. It is a big lens though. And it can flare very easily - it is hard to shade the big front element. It really works great for that in your face type look. But you can't really use filters and shades with it. I haven't bothered much with just working with the .7.

I also have the Century .6X Tinsley double asphere - it is much lighter and I use it for more normal wide angle useage inside and out. It is higher quality optically. I would recommend this one. Less flaring.

They all slip over the front of the lens and clamp on. All of them need to focus with the back focus.

Century also has a .8x converter that is a zoom through - just like canon and fujinon offer. It is a real heavy piece of glass. Shooting 4x3 with a 16x9 camera, it brings you back to normal field of view. Focus is normal with this converter.

I have the 17x7.6x2 and using the fujinon wat-h85
Excellent HD lens, maintains geometries and did not chromatic aberrations

Well, I've tried the lens set I mentioned. It's definitely made for 4:3 work as it vignettes and has edge softness in 16:9. Sending it back tomorrow.

I looked for the Century .6x Double Asphere that Alphacam mentioned, but couldn't find it. Alpha, where did you get yours?

Tinsley bought Century Precision optics - and that's when Century had these Tinsley desgned lenses, then Tinsley sold Century to Schneider, and now they don't have the tinsley asphere lenses anymore. They are out of production now, so you have to find them used. If you do get vinetteing on this type of lens, you can zoom in slightly to eliminate it.

I also used a Double Asphere (on a Fuji 8x15, on a DSR-100) for a while back in the late 90s. Great piece of gear -- saved my butt on occasion when I was shooting in tiny offices, other tight spots, giving just the needed extra wide angle to get the shot.

BTW, I still have the lens shade/filter holder for this. Sold the asphere itself (with a pile of other equip) after 9/11 put me on the sidelines. But this shade was "hiding" and I couldn't offer it to the asphere buyer (a filmmaker from out west).

Now, it has turned up, so if anyone could possibly use it, I'll let it go for a reasonable price (it was overpriced to begin with, at $400 or more if I remember). It might fit over current WA adapters in Century's line, but I couldn't be sure -- you'd have to check with them. The filter holder takes 4x5.65" filters.
