why won't it turn off?

Hey, new to the board, and new to the camera world, so please excuse my new jack questions. I have been toying with adding a shotgun mic, as well as a lav mic to my hmc105 but the internal mic won't turn off. The shotgun and lav are more receptive, but the internal still picks up some sound. Help?

thre are switches for the input source of each audio channel. you can select internal or the jack inputs. there are also other switches to engage phantom power if you need it for your mics.

OK, first you should read the manual. Second invest in Barry Green's book. Now. There are four switches on your camera inside the LCD flipout screen on the second row from the top:
CH1 SELECT CH2 SELECT INPUT 1 INPUT 2
On the top of each of the channel select switches you will see three choices, INT INPUT ! INPUT2 Those are the choices you have for input to each channel. Two external on CH 1 and one external on CH2. You will notice you have 3 choices on CH ! and 2 choices on CH 2. Int mean the internal microphone will be fed to this channel. Input 1 means input 1 will be fed to this channel and sme for input two. Inputs refer to the External XLR Connectors on your camera and they are labeled 1 & 2.
So if you plug your Shotgun into input 1 and your lave into input 2 you need to choose Input 1 on CH 1 and Input 2 on CH 2. If you leave these switches on INT you will always get the internal microphones.
Hope this makes sense and best of luck with a wonderful camera!

Here's the manual pages and like Brian says buy Barry's book, it's a little pricey but worth it.
This confused me when I first started out. Just experiment and work it out before you're on a shoot and every thing will be easy after a couple of dry runs.
Kudos for asking.
