FS5: Why the FS5 is unique.

It just occured to me that all the current low end digital cinema cameras are in about the 7 to 10 thousand Euro range. Below that you have the DSLRs and Alpha type cameras in the 1 to 3 thousand range. The FS5 is the only product that sits in between... making it a wide sweeping all and offers everything out of the box. That is why it finds its way into every discussion and is an incredible product. Perhaps the right product for most of us. Sony may have made a mistake by raising its price with the Mark 2.

Just a small nitpick. But to me a FS5 is not a cinema camera. Or a FS7. Not anymore than an A7R, Gopro or 5D is a cinema camera just because of a 35mm sensor. Or because they have been used in movies. It used to be that cameras with 35mm sensor were kind of considered cinema cameras. When large sensor cameras were the exception. But now 35mm is the normal. Cinema cameras are Alexas, Reds, Varicams, F35, F65, Venice etc. The others are basically professional, industrial or broadcast cameras with a 35mm sensor. You can call a FS5 a cinema camera if that makes a difference for you. But in reality it's not really. Soderbergh just made a movie with an iPhone. Doesn't make the iphone a cinema camera. 35mm sensors don't make them cinema cameras. 35mm is the standard now for basically everything. Even weddings. Just brought this up because you felt the need to differentiate a FS5 from 35mm DSLRs as a cinema camera. Maybe to justify your purchase. But if you rig a DSLR up it's basically a FS5. Just buy the camera you want and don't worry if it's a cinema camera or not. Buy the camera YOU want. Nobody can tell you. A million threads about the same thing won't tell you either.
