Why not shoot non-flipped?

Benbixby - I have been trying to figure out all the different 35 adapters available, and which one is the best for my DVX100B. My head is spinning... What monitor do you have that allows a flip? That seems like the best idea. Why flip if you don't have to. The flip device adds more light loss according to what I have been reading. Any recommendations on a reasonable field monitor? Thanks.

Yeah, I agree with those saying adapters look a bit unprofessional or strange. I love the look they create, but they just look so funny!
They get to be so long, and look so quirky. They'll be a thing of the past in the not so distant future when more larger sensor cams are released. Who would have known when the f900 first came out that you'd be able to buy a digital camera with a super35mm sized sensor and pl mount for 18 grand a few years later. Technology moves fast.
I suppose these adapter companies will just adapt and move on, utilizing their in house talent and machinists to design some great innovative grip gear or something along those lines.

I love the simplicity of the non-flipped adaptors. One set of rods, no step up riser, lower CG for handheld, overall sturdier because fewer relays, etc. My on board has image flip and my monitor mount flips the client monitor in a second. It's no big deal in terms of making a "professional" impression. Hell, you're already using an adaptor, you've got little to lose.

It's the post that bites me in the ass. Who's got a good flip ingest system? I may jump back in with a G35 so the non-flip may become my reality again - if there's a good post solution.

Due to budget constraints, I went the cheap route and bought a monitor bundle from LCD4Video.com - $200 and they are in Michigan, where I am as well, so it worked out nice. The monitor isn't high def by any means but it gets the job done. I bought it mostly for use with my camera crane but I'll probably use it for a non-flipped configuration as well.

Wow... Thanks for the info on the LCD site! This is just what I need. I am on a very limited budget as well right now. The bundle looks great for that price. Even the LCD hoodies are only $10! I can't even buy lunch for that anymore. Are you happy with the monitor?

A point of information to consider, some manufacturers count each red, green, and blue pixel separately in their horizontal measurement. that monitor is really closer to 480X234. Some mfgrs attempt to disclose this in an interesting way and list at as 480XRGBX234 as well. Some don't disclose it at all.

If you calculate the H/V pixels at the 16x9 aspect ratio, 1440 Horizontal pixels would calculate to 811.25 Vertical pixels, not 234. However, if you divide 1440 by 3, you get 480X234 which is pretty close to a 16X9 aspect ratio.
