Canuck moving to New York... any tips?

After 27 years of slugging it out in Canada's capital of Ottawa, I've finally started to put some spice in my life and decided to move to NYC at the end of this year. My partner just got a job teaching there, so I might as well soak up the city with her and maybe get to do a few cool gigs while I'm at it.

Anyone else from the frozen north done this? Any pointers to getting assimilated into such an amazing city? i.e. paperwork, visas etc?

Wasn't sure where to post this, so please move to wherever appropriate.

Thanks to all in advance!

Hey,

I'm from Toronto and plan on moving to New York City once I'm done school.

My uncle moved to NYC a decade or so ago and he comes back to Toronto to get his visa renewed every once in a while. So you might have to do that. Not sure how it works now though

But it's an incredible city. Beautiful urban locations to shoot as well.

I can vouch for how incredible NYC is...I live upstate (which is quite beautiful in its own right) but make sure I get down to the city as much as possible. There is just too much to do there...so much culture....not a place on the globe like it.
