Why not leave Macro on?

This is very basic but it perplexes me.
I left Macro on by mistake when shooting a LS and various others that didn't need Macro. The footage looked fine so how does Macro affect shooting non-close up shots?
Any advice welcome.

It's pretty much an Auto Focus thing. Think of Macro OFF as a focus distance limiter switch. Keep it on if you want. I do, too, but I don't use Auto Focus.

DVX200's focal range is 10cm-∞. With Macro off, the focal range is 1m-∞. I believe the "Macro" function of the DVX200 is a way to make focusing more efficient for Auto Focus under shooting conditions where your subject isn't within 1 meter of the camera. Let's say you're shooting a baseball game behind the safety fence behind the catcher to get a shot of the pitcher. With Macro ON the camera might get confused in AF and focus on the fence instead of the pitcher. So, you set Macro to OFF and it won't be able to seek focus closer than 1m.

I consider Macro ON to be normal shooting behavior and Off is simply a function to aid AF...which I don't use...so I leave Macro ON.
