WHY not delete lastclip?

I read everywhere that you are not supposed to delete the lastclip file. But why not? What does this file do exactly?

If I want to give someone one of my shots, do I have to give them the lastclip as well as the MXF file? I have been editing MXF files in Edius Broadcast 4 with no problem (my MXF files are all together in one folder for easier reference, with no lastclip).

Thanks.

From what I understand it is only needed if the last clip on card one spans across to card 2.

Don't delete it because FCP expects to see it and won't import your P2 volume without it.

The lastclip.txt file is not required for any of our loggers to open a P2 volume. Might be other editors don't need it either...but FCP is pretty picky sometimes.

This is 100% NOT true.

As I said before. the first time I ever used the HVX I deleted the lastclip files. They import into FCP just fine.

This is my understanding as well.

It is also my understanding that final cut doesnt even use lastclip. At least not the current version.
