Why no 1/120 shutter selectable in NTSC 1080/24pFX 60fps S&Q ?

I live in PAL land and I can easily select 180 degree shutter (100) when using PAL 50fps S&Q , I’ve used this several times.

Why can’t I select a 180 degree shutter when using NTSC 60fps S&Q ? I can select 60, 90, 100, 125, 180, 250, 350, 500 etc, but not 120.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the FS100, like the EX- series, have an option to set the shutter to Angle (360, 180, 90, 45) OR to Speed (30, 60, 90, etc.)?

If so, just leave it at 180 degree shutter and it will automatically set it to double the frame rate, no?

It's been a couple months since I've used the FS100, so I may be speaking out of turn.

Unfortunately not.

"On the subject of shutter speed, the FS100 doesn’t adjust shutter speed with frame rate like the F3 and EX cameras do. So if you’re shooting 25p and have the shutter set to 1/50th of a sec. for a normal, film-like image and then you take advantage of the camera’s excellent slow motion by using the S&Q function to record at 50 fps, you also need to manually change the shutter speed to 1/100th to maintain a normal look. Not a big deal, but something to be aware of if you’re used film and/or other cameras that use shutter angle to control shutter speed automatically for slo-mo. Not adjusting this will give double the amount of motion blur to what we are used to seeing."

Very interesting. Thanks.

I know when I shot S&Q 60 for an explosion, I set it to 125. That's close enough for me.

Sorry I couldn't be more help :(

How does shutter angle work on the fs100 ? This was a function that was added with the firmware update which was released after that article was written

Good point! I’ve just dug through the firmware 2.0 menus again...
Correction to my previously posting, with firmware 2.0 it IS possible to change from 'shutter speed' to 'shutter angle' display using
Display Set -> Shutter Display -> Second | Degree

However, switching to degree display then using NTSC 60fps S&Q, the degree angle choices are:

2
4
5
7
10
14
22
30
42
60
85
120
170
216
240
360

180 degrees is missing from the list.

I didn't do the math on the firmware 2 shutter angles, but it just looked like the converted the existing shutter speeds to shutter angle - much like the conversion Gain/ISO update.
